Marvin Palmer

Marvin Palmer, age 92, of Chambers, passed away Friday morning, Feb. 22, 2013, at his home in Chambers.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, from 5-7 p.m., with a 6 p.m. prayer service, at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Chambers with Rev. Duane Waddle officiating. Music was provided by pianist, Shirley Hetrick and soloist, Duane Christiansen.

Pallbearers were Ken Palmer, Kevin Palmer, Rod Palmer, Bryan Palmer, Roger Preston, Luke Palmer and Jay Palmer.

Honorary pallbearers were Kristy Braithwait, Donna McKillip, Sherry Murphy, Tammy Palmer, Brenda Koeing, Sara Mahony and Alison Kluthe.

Interment was in the Bartlett Cemetery in Bartlett.

Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill was in charge of arrangements.

Marvin was born on Nov. 24, 1920, near Plainview, to Charles H. and Julia (Benedict) Palmer. Growing up he attended Plainview schools.

He married Alice B. Hackett on Aug. 23, 1939, in Wayne. To this union four sons and one daughter were born. Alice passed away on Sept. 10, 1974. He married Kathleen Foster (Steinkraus) on Nov. 11, 1979, at Stark Valley Methodist Church in Plainview.

Marvin farmed at Plainview from 1939 to 1959. He moved to a ranch northwest of Bartlett from 1959 to 1981. From 1981 to 1991 he ranched west of Chambers. He moved into Chambers and hauled cattle from 1991 until 2009.

He was a member of the Stark Valley Methodist Church in Plainview.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Kathleen of Chambers, four sons, one daughter and three stepsons, 14 grandchildren, 13 step grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, many step great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Survivors include: Duane (Carol) Palmer of Norfolk and their children: Ken (Shelly) and their children, Kristy (Jeff) Braithwait and daughter, Kevin (Jody) and their children and grandchildren, Ward (Karen) Putnam and their children and grandchildren, Teresa (Craig) Carstens and their children and grandchildren and daughter-in-law Peg Putnam. Gloria (Bill) Stipes of Chambers and their children: Donna McKillip and son, Sherry (Brian) Murphy and children and Roger Preston. Wes (Marilyn) Palmer of Chambers and their children: Rod (Annette) and son and Brenda (John) Koenig and children. Keith (Cathy) Palmer of Ewing and their children: Bryan (Bonnie) and their children, Sara (Mike) Mahony and their children, Alison (A.J.) Kluthe and their children, Luke (Mandy) and their children and Jay (Jaci). Mert (Pam) Palmer of Plainview and their son Cody Bayer. Gene (Dodi) Steinkraus of Plainview and their children,  Adam and David. Barry (Lou) Steinkraus of Plainview and their children: Brian (Kristin) and their son, Laura (Ward) Frahm and their children, Lisa (Travis) Montgomery and their children and John. Rick (Judy) Steinkraus of Plainview and their children: Missy (Scott) Givens and their children,  Kristy (Scotty) Wagner and their children and Allan (Vanessa) and their children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Alice; one daughter-in-law, Pearl; one step daughter, Marilyn Steinkraus; two step grandsons, Clint Steinkraus and Todd Putnam; one great grandson, Alan McKillip; two brothers, Arland and Orin; and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
