The O'Neill Eagles traveled to Valentine for the season opener and came away with a 47-25 win over the Badgers. The Eagles put a hurt on the Badgers, running up a 35-0 lead at the half. Turner Heiss led the Eagles, rushing for 36 yards and three touchdowns. He threw for 60 yards and one touchdown while completing 83.3% of his passes. Braxen Eichelberger also stood out for the Eagles as he rushed for 105 yards on only nine carries. The Eagles held the Badgers to 25 points and a completion percentage of 44 percent. Ryker Sudbeck, Ryder Kelly, Ian Yates, and Porter Mathews were defensive standouts, keeping the Badgers' air game at a minimum. The Eagles rushed for 329 yards with 60 yards passing and 30 yards receiving for 389 total yards per game. The Badgers rushed for 113 yards and had 161 yards passing and 274 yards total on the night. Eichelberger led the Eagles in rushing with nine carries for 105 yards, Grady Welke had 12 carries for 75 yards, Porter Mathews had eight carries for 55 yards, Heiss had eight carries for 36 yards and three touchdowns, Ryker Sudbeck had two carries for 21 yards, and Kage Pecena had one carry for two yards. Eichelberger had two receptions for 16 yards, and Mathews had one catch for 14 yards. Leading the Eagle defense was Colten Shoemaker with seven tackles, Kelly with five tackles, Mathews and Daine Brandt each with four tackles, Yates, Evan Thompson, Welke, and Drake Brandt with three tackles each, Evan Shoemaker, Noah Manchester, Cort Chohon, and Nate Brown with two tackles each. Tate Diediker, Tucker Anderson, Sudbeck, Beau Sobotka, Tavin Morrow, and Jordan Chairez each had one tackle. The Eagles will have their first home game against Gordon-Rushville on Friday, September 5.
