Jones

Leon E. "Jack" Jones, age 92, of Lexington, passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at the Lexington Regional Hospital in Lexington.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lexington Christian Church in Lexington with John Jones, lay minister officiating. There was no public visitation but the casket was open prior to the service at the church.

Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington with military honors conducted.

Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington was in charge of arrangements.

Leon E. "Jack" Jones was born on Jan. 4, 1920, in Wilsonville to Edward and Mary (Duling) Jones. Jack and his family moved to Chambers when he was 13 years old.

Jack was a United States Army veteran who served his country during WWII. He served overseas in the European Campaign. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 23, 1945.

He was united in marriage to Ethel Butts on Oct. 13, 1945, in O'Neill. Four children were blessed to this marriage: Sharon, Larry, Vickey and Brad.

The family moved to Lexington in 1951 when Jack went to work as a mechanic for the Chevy garage. He also worked for Dawson County Motors, the alfalfa mill and retired from Coop at the age of 73.

You could always find Jack busy in his workshop making holiday decorations for their home. He loved to decorate during Halloween and Christmas and many folks from the area enjoyed his decorating skills. Jack also loved to garden and read, but most especially being with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Ethel Jones and  son, Brad (Bernadette) Jones, all of Lexington; daughter, Vickey (Frank) Koehn of Johnson Lake; brother, Bob (Neva) Jones of O'Neill; sisters: Earleen (Tom) Moroney of Grand Island, Ruby Grubb of South Dakota and Shirley Noble of South Sioux City; one son-in-law, Harley Nelson of Lincoln; one daughter-in-law, Linda Jones of Elwood; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, with two on the way; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry Jones; daughter, Sharon Nelson; sister, Esther Homolka and granddaughter, Stacey Nelson.

Memorials are suggested to the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department or the donor's choice.
