Lela M. Strope

Lela M. Strope, age 86, of Creighton, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at the Creighton Care Centre in Creighton.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. at the Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Creighton with Pastor  Milana Joseph officiating. Music was provided by organist, Cheryl Werner and congregational singing.

Pallbearers were Jerry Allen, III, Terry Schnauber, Steve Strope, Terry Strope and Russel Hall.

Burial was in the Hope-Enterprise Cemetery in Venus, rural Orchard. Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton was in charge of arrangements.

Lela M. Rehm, daughter of Bernard F. and Margaret (Meyer) Rehm, was born Feb. 14, 1927, at Creighton. She attended Creighton High School.

On March 9, 1949, she was married to Bernard W. Strope. They met while Lela was teaching at the Enterprise country school. The couple were blessed with one son, Boyd. 

Lela loved tending to her large garden and flowers, as well as helping Bernard with the farm and cattle. She enjoyed time with her many nieces and nephews and especially loved time spent with her granddaughter and grandson.

She was a member of the Venus Wesleyan Church and later attended the Orchard Evangelical Church after the Wesleyan Church closed.

Lela is survived by her son, Boyd W. Strope and wife MaLaine of O'Neill; grandchildren, Tejlor G. and Berren W. Strope; one sister, Mary Ann Allen of Ainsworth; special friends of the family, Todd, Ann and Calvin Boelter; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister, Florence Schnauber.
