The SMH Cardinal football team have yet to be taken down this season, and the Boyd County Spartans were apparently not the ones to do it. The team visited Friday, Sept. 12 and were sent packing 50-12. The Cardinals had an impenetrable defense, not allowing the Spartans to score until late in the match. The Cards in the meantime were putting in work and running circles around the field. The Cardinals took the lead and kept a steady pace, only faltering toward the end. In the end, they took it 50-12; 12-0, 16-0, 16-0 and 12-6. Gage Hedstrom was the MVP, racking up 14 carries for 168 yards and five touchdowns; Keigan Couch had 11 carries for 55 yards; Connor Banks had four carries for six yards; Ben Barlow had three carries for four yards; Logan Brabec had two carries for 16 yards and one touchdown; Drake Berg had two carries for six yards; Myles Hamilton had one carry for 22 yards; and Lane Bybee had one touchdown. Leading the receivers was Berg with two catches for 39 yards; Ben Barlow had two catches for 18 yards; and Bybee had one catch for nine yards. Taking charge for the team's defense was Berg with 11 tackles, Hedstrom with nine, Bybee with eight, Dalton Herley and Barlow with six each, Myles Hamilton with five, Eli Banks with four, Ben Pongratz and Kolton Lavicky with three each, Zane Cole with two, and Memphis Brabec, Cooper Cole, L. Brabec, Ruger Kraft, John Mlnarik, Couch, Eby and Banks all with one tackle each.
