Lady Eagles Lose Two In Mid State Tourney


The Eagles traveled to Pierce Thursday, Oct. 25 for the first round of the Mid State Volleyball Tournament. O'Neill faced Boone Central/Newman Grove in game one. The Eagles lost 25-22, 25-17 and 25-10.

Leading at the net was Lindsey Appleby with nine kills and two blocks. Alyssa Sobotka followed with five kills while Megan Peter and McKenzie Adamson added two kills apiece.

Defensively Rahtaya Young led with 12 digs.  Alyssa Sobotka added 10 digs while Brandi Taylor and Natalie Brodersen followed with nine and eight digs respectively.  Appleby led all serve receivers with 17 good receptions.

Setting duties were handled by Brandi Taylor with 12 set assists followed by Appleby with five assists.

O'Neill vs. Madison

O'Neill played Madison in second game action of the Mid State Tourney at Norfolk Catholic's gym. The Dragons defeated the Eagles 25-15, 25-20 and 25-21.

"Madison served strong and we couldn't get our serve receive consistently to our setter for a strong offensive attack," said Coach Appleby.  

Alyssa Sobotka led in kills with seven followed by Tapanga Lihs and Lindsey Appleby with three kills each. Megan Peter and McKenzie Adamson each added two kills while Rahtaya Young had one kill. Lihs and Appleby each had one block in the game.

Top diggers were Appleby with 12 digs, Sobotka with 10 digs and Young with nine digs.  Natalie Brodersen added seven digs followed by Adamson and Schneider with five digs apiece.  

Sarah Devall was the setter with 12 set assists.
