Eagles Defeat West Holt But Fall To Norfolk Catholic

The Eagles traveled to Norfolk to take on Norfolk Catholic and dropped their third game of the season, losing 51-44.

"Norfolk Catholic is  healthy now and they are a tough team when at full strength," said Coach Kallhoff. "We played pretty well for the most part but the third quarter continues to be a weak spot in all of our losses.  We can not beat the top tier teams in C1 when we only score two points in an entire Stanza."

Despite the low scoring the Eagle defense was spot on and held the Knights to only six points in the third but it was enough to take the lead and keep it throughout the rest of the game.  Leading the Eagles on the night was Derrick Hostert who had 23 points while tying his own school record of nine steals. Also in double digits was  Charley Burtwistle who finished with 16 points as Michael Hedlund manned the boards by ripping down a team high 11 rebounds.

On Thursday the Eagles hosted the Huskies of West Holt for county bragging rights with the final in O'Neill's favor, 61-46.  The game started with a flurry of buckets from both teams but it was O'Neill who took the early lead. Led by Derrick Hostert's game high 20 points, the Eagles never looked back. All twelve Eagle players saw significant time with eight players following Hostert, who also added six steals and five assists, into the scoring column.  Charley Burtwistle was the only other Eagle in double figures as he dropped in 14 to go with his five steals and five assists.  Donnie Taylor added seven points, Michael Hedlund six, Cody Belzer six, Jackson Latzel three, Dylan Belik three and Tyson Hostert two.

Next action for the Eagles is the Mid State Conference Tournament which started on Saturday and will conclude with the finals this Saturday at Norfolk's Northeast Community College. Brackets are located at KBRX.com and the school website.
