Eagle JV Boys Hot In January


The O'Neill JV boys have faced some quality teams and have been much more consistent this January.The boys have added five wins over the past two weeks. They have been able to finish off close games and have shown steady improvement.  

In their first game back after the holiday break they trailed by 18 points in the first half against GACC and fought back for a 58-53 road win to start 2013.  Riley Wakefield hit for 26 including five three point baskets.  Jackson Latzel also chipped in 13.  Latzel also had eight rebounds and Jacob Emme had four assists on the night.

Ainsworth visited the Aerie the same week and the Eagles never held the lead until the last 20 seconds when Nate Gotschall banged home a deep three pointer from the left wing.  Gotschall had nine of his game high 15 in the fourth stanza and was a perfect six for six from the stripe. Latzel had nine boards and Tyson Hostert had three assists.  

The Eagles picked up another win against Creighton as they ground out a 36-29 win. Latzel hit for 14 points and Amador Medina had four assists and six rebounds on the night. The Eagles played Wagner, SD, last Tuesday and the Red Raiders left a 50-35 winner.  Belik paced the Eagles with 10 points and Gotschall and Emme had three assists each.  Jon Hunt and Amador Medina each had five rebounds.  The Junior Eagles traveled to Norfolk Senior High on Thursday to take on the sophomore Panthers. The Eagles jumped to an early 11-0 lead and used a smothering man defense to cruise to a 52-37 win.  The Eagles never trailed in the contest and played their most complete game this season.  Gotschall and Hostert led the offensive charge with 13 apiece and Latzel hit for 11. Latzel pulled down nine rebounds and Medina had five.  Wakefield had three steals along with three assists. With the win the Eagles run their JV record to 8-5 on the season.
