The St. Mary's boys varsity improved their season record to 11-1 with three wins this past week. On Tuesday the Cards were to travel to Santee and then would have a week off before traveling to Creighton on Jan. 22 and then to Stuart on Thursday the 24th of the month. The opening on Friday of this week occurred when Lynch joined with West Boyd to create Boyd County.

On Tuesday the fast breaking Hartington Wildcats visited St. Mary's and the Cards finally subdued the Cats 63-45. The score was 33-26 at half but the St. Mary's inside game and continued pressure provided the margin of victory. The Cardinals placed three men in double figures led by junior Adam Moon with 23 points. Seniors, Connor Connot and Aaron Ohri each contributed 16 and 10 points respectively. Moon also led the rebounding with 10 while Ohri and Connot had nine and seven boards apiece. Senior point guard Ty Eiler led the ball handling with nine assists. Moon also led the defense with three steals and three blocked shots.

On Thursday the injury riddled Ewing Tigers came to town and fell to the Cards 81-31. St. Mary's jumped to a 21-8 first quarter score and never looked back. All 14 players scored for the Cards. Adam Moon again led the Cards with 24 points; 20 the first half. Cole Moon, Connor Connot and Jared Tomjack added five, eight and eight respectively. Moon led the rebounding with 15 camroms while Connot and Matt Kelly added six and four respectively. Assist leaders were Adam with four and Ty Eiler and Aaron Ohri with three apiece. On defense Kyle Pardun led with three steals.

Saturday the Cardinals finished their four game home stand with a 60-42 victory over Chambers/Wheeler Central. The Renegades took charge of the first quarter with a 14-9 lead but the Cards went on a 22-3 run in quarter two to take the lead against a fast improving hustling club. Adam Moon led the offense with 28 points while Ty Eiler and Connor Connot added nine and six respectively. Moon led the board action with 17 while Connot hauled down six caroms. Eiler led the assist numbers with four with Moon close behind with three. On defense Moon produced four steals and three blocked shots.

"At present the Cardinals are playing good team basketball. We are getting good contributions from our starters and getting much needed help from our bench. Our bench has stepped up big the last five games after the loss to Wynot which is great news as the tough and most interesting part of our season approaches," commented Coach Chvala.
