The St. Mary's Cardinals started  off with a rough season opener last Saturday evening at home. The Cards faced off against Neligh-Oakdale and came away with a 32-14 loss.

The Cards have a lot of fresh faces in key positions this season, and with a lot of the players starting in their first varsity game, the outcome was a very tough first game.

The Warriors out scored the Cards 22-8 in the first half but were only out scored by four in the second half.

The Cards first score was a nine yard pass from Kyle Regan to his sibling, Tyler Regan, too give the Cards their only points of the first half. The second scoring opportunity came when Kyle Regan ran in the end zone from a goal line position in the fourth quarter.

Leading the Cardinals were Zack Novak with 23 yards rushing, Kyle Regan threw 18/39 for 223 yards,  and top receiver was Tyler Regan with five catches for 83 yards. Leading the Cardinal defense was Michael Wecker with 13 total tackles.
