O'Neill Boy's Grab Title At Creighton

TAIT LAURESEN running the hurdles at Creighton.

Last Tuesday, April 26, the O'Neill Eagles split the boys team. All varsity athletes competed in the Creighton Invitational and most the freshman and sophomores ran in the the Pierce Freshman/Sophomore Invitational.

The boy's varsity team earned first place with 124 points. The team was able to place athletes in 13 of the 17 events.

The team was extremely strong in the jumping events. The Eagles were able to sweep the pole vault with a Angel Rodriguez vaulting 12', Tate Laursen 11' 6", and Lucas George 10' 06". In the long jump the Eagles placed second, third and sixth. The long jumpers were Beau Schueth 19' 11", Brock Schueth 19' 06.25", and Tyler Knopp 18' 11.5". Tyler Knopp was also able to placed third in the triple jump with an effort of 37' 1.75" and sixth in high jump with 5' 4".

Cody Knopp improved his personal best for the year in the discus with a throw of 140' 1" earning a second place finish. Kurtis Mlinar also threw his best this year placing fifth with 120' 4."

Angel Rodriguez placed first with his fastest time of the year in the 110 high hurdles with 16.4 seconds. In the sprints Beau Schueth placed second in the 100 meter dash with 11.5. Connor Peterson placed fourth in the 200 meter dash with 23.8. Running the 1600 meter run for the first time this year Michael Hedlund placed second with a time of 4:59.1. Derrick Hostert ran his first 3200 of his career and placed third with a respectable time of 10:32.9. The 4 x 100 meter relay placed third, and the 1600 meter relay placed second.

O'Neill took 16 athletes to the Pierce Freshman/Sophomore Invite. The team scored 38.5 points. Placing first in the 3200 meter run was Humbeto Costillo with a time of 11:41. Thomas Schipporeit placed in two events; third in the shot put with a throw of 40' 8", and fourth in discus with a throw of 114' 10". Donnie Taylor place fifth in the discus with a throw of 108' 7". Jackson Latzel placed foruth in the triple, 35' 10". Jesse Albarran placed fifth with a jump of 16' 8.25". Two Eagles placed in the 1600 meter run with fifth and sixth. Joseph Gillham ran 5:43.9 and Kyler Lurz 5:57.7. Cole Pease ran his personal best in the 400 meters, 58.5 seconds, placing fifth. Devon Davidson and Cole Pease also placed in the 800 meter run, fifth and sixth respectively.

"We are getting faster, which we need too. We are only a little over two weeks away from districts," said Coach Hilker.
