OHS Eagles Move On To Playoffs

TAKE DOWN - Tate Laursen takes down a Ord player in last week's game at Ord.

The O'Neill Eagles have concluded their 2012 regular season with a 6-2 record. For the first time since 1996 they will advance to the first round of the Nebraska State Football Playoffs on Thurs. Oct. 25 and play Grand Island Central Catholic at 6 p.m.

"Last Thursday was a very tough battle lost by the O'Neill Eagles.  The Eagles found their backs against the wall on their own 10 yard line, with the first possession staring into the stiff wind. We never could get anything going offensively. Defensively we gave them two early scores with the wind at their back and we never recovered. We did not play with a lot of fire in this game. When they hit us in the mouth early on we did not respond well. This week our team has a great opportunity that the school has not seen in 16 years. We have a shot this week to advance if we come out with a hungry attitude and a 'never quit' mentality for four quarters. We are very excited about getting the opportunity to play an extra week in the post-season," said Coach Eichelberger.

Leading the Eagles this past week  was Tate Laursen with 14 carries for 27 yards, Ferdi Reicks with two carries for eight yards and Spencer Knopp with two carries for two yards.

Leading receiver were Derrick Hostert with two receptions for 27 yards, Marcus McNichols with one reception for nine yards and Tad Fry with one reception for eight yards.

Leading the defense was Tad Fry with 20 tackles, followed by Robert Nordby with 18 tackles and Tate Laursen with 16 tackles.
