O'Neill Golf Team Has Busy And Succesful Week

The O'Neill golf team had a very busy week this week with catching up some tournaments that were postponed because of weather and the tournaments that were scheduled for this week. In all O'Neill golfers participated in five tournaments in six days. O'Neill was able to compete well this week and were able to place first or second in every meet.

The week got started on Monday when the varsity traveled to Plainview to take part in the Plainview invite. The golfers were able to play well placing four golfers in the top 15 and second as a team shooting a 324 trailing Plainview by eight strokes. Cody Belzer lead the Eagles shooting a 78. Blake Bauer and Luke Loecker shot a 81 for ninth and 10th respectively. Dalton Jackson placed 16th with a 84. Riley Chohon rounded out the scoring for the Eagles with a 94.

The week kept going on Tuesday when the varsity traveled to Hartington and played on a cool and windy day. Once again the Eagles were able to play well and again placed four golfers in the top 12. The team was able to close the gap on Plainview but still finished second. Plainview won the tournament with a 315 and O'Neill was second shooting a season team best 319. Leading the Eagles was Blake Bauer with a 76 placing third. Cody Belzer carded an 80 to take home eighth place. Dalton Jackson shot a 81 and placed 11th while Luke Loecker scored a 82 and took home the 12th place metal. Nate Gotschall rounded out the scoring for the Eagles shooting a 109.

The Eagles then were in action next on Thursday when they hosted their own invite on a very nice day. The Eagles were excited to show off their skills on their home course and they did not disappoint. The Eagles were able to shoot a 327 as a team and win by 19 strokes to Hartington CC. Blake Bauer was able to be the gold individual medalist as well shooting a 77. Luke Loecker scored a 82 to bring home the fourth place medal. Nolan Swanson shot an 83 and placed fifth. Cody Belzer was able to record an 85 to place ninth. Dalton Jackson was able to shoot a 86 and place 10th.

The JV was able to have a pretty good day as well with Riley Chohon leading the way with a 91. Nate Gotschall was able to record a 94, while Morgan Sterns scored 106. Brock Eiler was able to shoot a 111 and Jon Price rounded out the scoring for the Eagles with a 120. The JV shot a 402 and placed 10th.

On Saturday the varsity went to Atkinson while the jv went to Pierce. It was a very windy day and it was a day that tested the kids mental game and made them be patient all day when things weren't going their way. The varsity struggled in their first nine and was sitting in fifth place, but they were able to regain their composure and gain some of the ground back they lost early. The Eagles shot a 349 which was good enough for second place. Blake Bauer placed third with an 82. Luke Loecker was able to shoot in the 80's as well scoring an 85 and placing eighth. Dalton Jackson placed 15th with a 90. Cody Belzer rounded out the scoring for the Eagles with a 92.

The JV was lead by Nate Gotschall who scored an 88 and placed 14th. Riley Chohon was able to score a 102 for the Eagles. Morgan Sterns scored a 106, and Brock Eiler shot a 103 to finish the scoring for the JV. The JV shot an even 400 and finished in the middle of the pack in the team race.

The Eagles are now focusing on getting ready for district play in a couple of weeks and hope to carry some of the momentum from this past week into the weeks ahead.
