Eagles Compete At Norfolk Classic

Last Thursday, April 28, the O'Neill Eagles competed at the Norfolk Classic Invitational Track meet. The Norfolk Classic consist of the best athletes in area being invited based upon previous performances of the current season, regardless of class size. Schools ranged from Class A to Class D.

Leading the charge and placing second with his personal best in the 1600 meter run was Derrick Hostert with a time of 4:39.73. Michael Hedlund placed third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:03.2, which is his best mark for this current season. Daniel Waterman who was seated 12 in the 3200 meter run, placed ninth overall.

O'Neill had three individuals in field events. Angel Rodriguez vaulted his best, 13 feet, which earned him a third place finish. Tate Laursen placed seventh with a 11 foot vault. Cody Knopp placed eighth with a throw of 117 feet 7 inches.

In the relays the 4 x 100 placed seventh but ran their best time of the year with a time if 46.44, which is fully automated. Running 4 x 100 were Brock Schueths, Beau Schueths, Tate Laursen, and Connor Peterson. The 4 x 400 improved their time by nearly six seconds and placed fourth. The time was 3:35.8. Members of the 4 x 400 were Brock Schueth, Beau Schueth, Derrick Hostert, and Michael Hedlund.

 "All the O'Neill athletes represented us well. We need to keep improving for districts," said Hilker.
