Emmet — Mardell "Mardy" Dawn Hansen, 62, of Emmet, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024 at her home after a long battle with cancer.

Following Mardy's wishes, there will be no services at this time.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill is in charge of the arrangements.

Mardell was born on April 28, 1961, in Atkinson to Roy and Norma (Kopejtka) Johnson. She attended country grade schools at Districts 8 and 90, then high school at O'Neill Public High. She grew up on her parents' farm where she developed a lifelong love for animals. This love for animals would later become her true passion!

Once she was done with school, she worked for her parents with the U.S. Mail and Omaha World Herald doing contracted routes, delivering the mail and newspapers. Mardy eventually moved on to other careers, milking cows, mowing parks/cemeteries, delivery of seed corn for Golden Harvest and working security for TP&L all in the O'Neill area.  Throughout all of these careers she maintained her true passion of ranching as she loved taking care of her girls! Her cows were her passion.

Mardy had three children Jeremy, Jody and Bobby.

She later found Charles Hansen in 1993 and would eventually marry on Jan. 18, 2000, at Lake Andes, SD, making their home just east of Emmet.

Mardy loved being in the outdoors and around her cattle. She liked to ride horses, check pastures, spend time with all the animals and fishing in her younger years. She truly loved being around her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a hard-working woman and someone always willing to help out her friends and neighbors.

Mardy is survived by her husband of 24 years Chuck Hansen of Emmet; her three children Jeremy (Lisa) Johnson of Roca, Jody (Telle) Manchester and Bobby (Tasha) Harte, all of O'Neill; nine grandchildren Austin Johnson, Jaci Johnson, Addison Johnson, Makenna Johnson, Steel Johnson, Cassidy Montgomery, Noah Manchester, Brea Manchester and Jedd Harte; her two siblings Robert Johnson of O'Neill and Michele Johnson of Highmore, SD; and several nieces, nephews and spoiled pets.

She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Norma Johnson and a niece Jordan Hanson.
