The O'Neill Eagles succumbed to their first loss Friday night after traveling to Columbus Lake View for their last regular-season game of the year. The teams, both undefeated, handed O'Neill a 29-19 loss. The Vikings were stacked with a large squad, causing some mismatches on the line of scrimmage. The Vikings' first touchdown was called back, but Columbus did get in the end zone with 4:49 in the first quarter. The Eagles, with 9:32 on the clock in the second quarter, managed to hold the Vikings out of the end zone with Grady Welke sacking the Viking quarterback on fourth down. The Eagles drove out of the end zone and punted, only to have Columbus drive it back in for a touchdown. Lake View, two series later, got another score to go into the half with a 21-0 lead. The Eagles took their shot in the third with 8:09 left when Turner Heiss hit Braxen Eichelberger at midfield, where Eichelberger ran in a 51-yard touchdown to get the Eagles on the board. Heiss hit Eichelberger later on in the third for a 60-yard touchdown and turned the tide, giving the O'Neill crowd a spark going into the fourth. Welke again hit the Vikings' backfield hard in the fourth, causing a fumble, and Jordan Chairez of O'Neill came up with the ball. Heiss got the last score of the game, bringing the score to 21-19, with the hopes of turning the game the Eagles' way. The Vikings managed more points to seal their win over the Eagles and send them packing. Heiss threw 24 times for nine completions and two touchdowns. Heiss carried the ball four times for 33 yards and one touchdown; Eichleberger had four carries for 21 yards; Welke had five carries for 16 yards, and Porter Mathews had four carries for 12 yards.
