Lady Eagle Track Team Repeats As Central 8 Conference Champions

The O'Neill Lady Eagles made the long trip to Friend High School to participate in the Central 8 Conference Track Meet on Monday. O'Neill came home with the championship trophy once again by outdistancing runner-up Lutheran High Northeast 188 points to 116.

Brandi Walters was a double winner placing first in the 100 meter dash running 13.0 and the 300 meter low hurdles with a 48.9 timing. She also placed second in 200 running 28.1 (27.4 in prelims) and fourth in the 100 high hurdles at 16.8 (16.0 in prelims).

The Lady Eagle distance crew had a great day as Dani Barelmann, Tasha Lechtenberg and Lizzie Price went 1-2-3 in the 1600 meter run. This was Dani's first time running this event and she made the best of it running 6:00.2. Tasha clocked in at 6:04.6 and Lizzie ran the race in 6:08.6. Lizzie and Tasha also went 1-2 in the 3200 meter run to give the Lady Eagles even more points in their quest for a title. Lizzie ran her best time of the year of 12:51.4 and Tasha ran the race in 13:15.9.

O'Neill's vaulters continued their dominance in that event as Bobbi Walters, Katie Stepp and Dani Barelmann placed first, third and fourth respectively. Bobbi cleared 10-6 and Katie and Dani both got over 8-0.

Junior Alex Hedlund also had a good day for the Lady Eagles as she placed second in the 100 high hurdles running 16.3; second in the 300 low hurdles at her season best of 49.0 and third in the 100 with a 13.5 time.

The Lady Eagle throwers had a nice day also. Allison Depko earned a second place finish in the shot put throwing 34-0. Sophomore Lindsey Appleby earned the bronze medal finishing third by throwing 31-08. Lindsey also threw her personal best in the discus this year, 100-09, to place third. Allison Depko threw 88-11 to finish in the fourth spot.

Heidi Hostert placed sixth in the triple jump going 29-03. Catrina Spangler also placed sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 68.0 and sixth in the 200 meter dash with a 30.0 time. Freshman, Alex Atkins, ran her best time of the year in the 100 meters with a 14.1 clocking to finish fifth.

Barelmann and Spangler also teamed up to place second and fourth in the 800 meter run. Dani ran 2:39.4 and Catrina ran 2:53.5.
