Valentine/West Holt

 Triangular

The O'Neill Eagles traveled to Valentine for a triangular on Sept. 10.The Eagles and Badgers faced each other the first game and the Badgers came out on top 25-9 and 25-13.

Defensively Rahtaya Young led in both passing categories with 13 digs and eight good serve receives. McKenzie Adamson added six good serve receives and two digs. Abby Krysl had five digs followed by Sarah Devall with four.

Devall and Brandi Taylor handled the setting duties. Young had two kills and Natalie Brodersen had one kill.   Adamson had the only block for the game.

In the second match O'Neill took on West Holt. The Huskies defeated the Eagles in two sets 25-12 and 25-23.

The Eagles got off to a good start against the Huskies with a 4-0 lead, but the Huskies came back to tie the game after one complete rotation. West Holt put together a string of points in their next rotations to beat the Eagles.

The second set was close with a tie score at 12, 16, 21 and 23.

Top servers for the match were Krysl and Natalie Brodersen with six points each followed by Taylor with three points from three aces.

Digs were led by Devall with nine followed by Young with eight and   Adamson with four. Young had the most good serve receives with six followed by Addie Schneider with four.

Young led at the net with four kills. Brodersen and Adamson each added two and one respectively.

Devall had four set assists while Taylor had two.

"The team picked up their level of play later in the match, but a few missed serves at key times hurt when we may have been able to gain the lead," said Coach Appleby.


O'Neill vs. Crofton

O'Neill hosted the Crofton Warriors in volleyball action last Thursday evening.The Eagles were defeated in three sets: 25-11, 25-14 and 25-8.

"Our serve receive is still giving us trouble so we just need to continue to improve in that area," said Coach Appleby. "I was pleased with our blocking tonight so if we can put the other pieces together we will be more competitive."

At the net Amanda Pischel led with five kills and two blocks for the Eagles. Brodersen also did a nice job with four blocks and two kills. Devall was the leading setter with eight assists.

Young topped the dig chart with nine digs followed by Devall with eight digs. Krysl and Taylor each added three digs apiece. 


Boone Central/Newman Grove Tourney

The Eagles faced tough competition at the eight-team Boone Central/Newman Grove Tourney this past weekend.

O'Neill was defeated by Schuyler the first match 25-20 and 25-15. The first set the Eagle's performance was respectable.

Devall led with five digs while Adamson, Krysl and Young each dug up four attacks.

The Eagles had five ace serves for the match with Young and Krysl serving up two ace each and one ace by Devall.

In the second match the Eagles struggled against the Vikings of Columbus Lakeview. Lakeview defeated O'Neill in straight sets 25-7 and 25-6.

During the third match of the day O'Neill faced Central City. In the first set the Bisons came out strong beating the Eagles 25-11, but the second set the Eagles fought hard and played a strong game despite suffering the loss 25-21.

Young led with seven digs, Taylor with five digs, while  Devall and  Krysl had four digs apiece.

Offensively Brodersen led with four kills. Young put down three kills and Becker added one kill.

Adamson topped the blocking charts with three blocks while Brodersen and Pischel each had one block apiece.
