Lady Eagle Track And Field Team Compete At The West Holt

The O'Neill Lady Eagle track and field team traveled to Atkinson last Thursday to compete in the 43rd Annual West Holt Invitational. The Lady Eagles were leading the meet going into the relay events but could not hold off the eventual champions Ainsworth and runner-up, Ord and finished third.

Bobbi Walters continued her dominance in the pole vault as she won the event with a vault of 9-6. After winning the event, Bobbi attempted 10-11, which would have bettered her school record of 10-10, but was unsuccessful. Katie Stepp and Dani Barelmann also placed in the vault going 7-6 and 7-0 respectively.

Brandi Walters picked up two silver medals as she placed second in the 100 high hurdles with a time of 16.3 and second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.1. She also earned a fourth place medal in the 300 low hurdles running her best time of the year at 50.0 and ran the anchor leg of the 4 x 400 relay which finished sixth.

Sophomore Lizzie Price ran her best time of the year in the 3200 meter run at 13:07.30 and finished third. Tasha Lechtenberg also had a personal best time of 6:06.6 in the 1600 meter run to finish fourth.

Alex Hedlund also had a personal best time of 49.0 in the 300 low hurdles to finish second. She battled through hitting a hurdle in the 100 high hurdles to finish in sixth and sprinted to a fifth place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.9.

In the field events, Allison Depko finished in fourth place in the shot put with a throw of 32-7; Heidi Hostert placed fifth in the triple jump with a 28-1.75 jump; freshman Alex Atkins finished sixth in the long jump going 13-2; Kelsey Appleby threw 100-1 in the discus to place third and Lindsey Appleby was right behind in fourth with a throw of 97-7.

Several athletes have been fortunate enough to qualify for the Norfolk Track and Field Classic to be held on Thursday, April 28. Brandi Walters and Alex Hedlund have qualified in the 100 high hurdles and the 300 low hurdles. Brandi also qualified in the 100 meter dash. Lizzie Price will be competing in the 3200 meter run. Bobbi Walters and Dani Barelmann will with both compete in the pole vault.

The meet is held at the Norfolk Senior High Track and Field Facility. Starting time for field events is 4:45 p.m. with running events to begin at 5:15 p.m.
