Feb 21, 2024 (0)

St. Mary's Mya Hedstrom (11) drives to the bucket against North Central's Morgan Lewis (5) in Thursday's sub-district game at St. Mary's.

The St. Mary's Lady Cards are now in the final days of their 2023-2024 season as the regular season is over, and the Cards have marched on to postseason play. The Lady Cards will play in the district final against Sumner Eddyville -Milner on Friday, February 23, at home starting at 6 p.m. The Cards will be looking for a bit of payback as the Mustangs eliminated the Cards from the Nebraska State Volleyball tournament on November 2.

On Tuesday, Feb. 13, the Cards doused the Boyd County Spartans season, handing them a 73-28 sub-district loss. The Spartans ended their season 5-16.

The Lady Cardinals hit the Boards hard, running up a 35-22 lead at the half.

The second half was devastating for the Spartans as they only made two points in the third stanza while the Cards slammed 34 in. The fourth period was played off the bench, with each team only putting up four a piece.

Lorissa Reiman and Pyper Ickes had an impressive game, each putting up 19 a piece and each shooting about 50 percent from the field. Reiman had eight rebounds and five steals. Reiman also scored her 1,000 point during the match and retained her all-time rebound leader for the Lady Cards. Ickes had eight rebounds and four steals.

Alissa Brabec and Gracie Williamson each put up ten on the Spartans, with Williamson having seven rebounds and six steals and Brabec having two rebounds and five steals; Adyson Peterson had 11 points, Mya Hedstrom two points, five rebounds, and five steals; and Lily Bauer two points.
