Monday saw the Irish Seniors travel to Atkinson for a twin bill. In the early game, Shane Willats took the mound of a planned five-inning game. The Irish started the game with the first three of four hitters rapping base hits and stealing four bases resulting in two runs. In the second, the bottom of the Irish order plated one more run with one hit and two Atkinson errors. All nine batted in the third inning as the Irish scored four more runs, one of those being a squeeze play executed by Connor Peterson squeezing in Luke Loecker. In the fifth, the Irish bats erupted for three more runs. On the other side of the book Shane Willats’ pitching resulted in only two Atkinson hits, allowing only one runner to get in scoring position and striking out nine in the five inning game. The final score was 10-0.

The nightcap put two hard throwers on the mound with Josh Koyle for Atkinson and Jordyn Johnson for the Irish. The Irish started with a single run in the first inning but left the bases loaded. The second inning started with three runs for the Irish highlighted by a two run homer by Derek Blumenstock The Irish were quiet in the third but erupted in the fourth with four more runs. The fifth inning saw Atkinson rally for three runs on two hits to close the gap to 8-3.  In the top of the seventh the Irish added another run to their lead. But Atkinson could not come up with any more runs as Luke Loecker came in the seventh to pitch a final scoreless inning. Jordyn Johnson ended the game with 14 strikeouts in six innings of work. Derek Blumenstock was a perfect two for two at the plate (single and home run) with two more walks.  The final was 9-3 to keep the Irish Seniors undefeated in the Elkhorn Valley League.
