Lady Eagles Face Pierce In First Round Of Conference Play

alex hedlund looks to pass the ball against  Norfolk Catholic Tuesday, Jan.24 in O'Neill.

The O'Neill Lady Eagles went 1-2 in the past three games winning over rival West Holt in a close battle and dropping a close game against previously number one  Norfolk Catholic by six points and another one to Pierce in the first round of the Mid-States Conference.  "I was very happy with the way we came out and played defense against Norfolk Catholic last week and even more happy with our offense generating 50 points against a very stingy Knight defense.  It was a one point game with 65 seconds left and we needed a shot to fall, but couldn't get one.  We then traveled to West Holt last Thursday and played for three quarters as well as we had all season leading as much as 16 points.  West Holt battled back and made it a nail-biter at the end managing a three point win at the end.  I have to give a lot of credit to West Holt and their coaching staff for finding a way to keep their team attacking in the fourth quarter.  Monday we entered our first Mid-States Conference game against Pierce and came away with our sixth loss of the season.  Pierce is a tough match-up for us with six  players over 5-11 making it very difficult in the half court.  I was  disappointed in our overall effort in this game on offense and in order for us to finish competitive the remainder of the season, we will need to bring a lot more energy from here on out." said Coach Eichelberger.

In the Norfolk Catholic game the leading scorer was Alex Hedlund with 20 points and eight rebounds followed by Lindsey Appleby with nine points and four rebounds, Brandi Walters with nine points, Kelsey Appleby with six points and Molly Shane with two points and 10 rebounds.

In the West Holt match Kelsey Appleby led the Lady Eagles with 17 points and five rebounds, Brandi Walters had 14 points and two rebounds and Lindsey Appleby had 13 points.

In Tuesdays conference game against Pierce leading the Eagles were Kelsey Appleby with 11 points and three rebounds, Lindsey Appleby with nine points and two rebounds and Bradi Walters and Alex Hedlund with five points each.
