Eagles Compete At B-4 District Track In Columbus Last Week

Last Thursday, May 12, the O'Neill Eagles were able to qualify three athletes to the state meet. The team scored 29 points, placing eighth. The top four from each final running event qualify to go to state. In the field events, the top three from each event qualifies, with the exception of athletes who make the state qualifying mark set by the NSAA. All times at the Columbus Lakeview were fully automated timed.

Beau Schueth placed third in the long jump with a jump of 20 feet 2 inches. Beau's longest jump was his first jump of preliminaries. Beau was in second place after prelims behind Lahm from Columbus Scotus. During finals Dahl from Logan View posted a mark of 20 feet 4 inches to push Schueth to third. Beau Schueth jumps Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

Michael Hedlund placed fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:04.1. Michael moved into the top five in the first 300 meters. After the 300 meter mark Hedlund kept the fourth place position to qualify for the state meet. Hedlund is only 1.2 seconds away from breaking the all-time O'Neill Sophomore 800 meter record held by Kyle Johnson who ran it at 2:07.2. The 800 meter run will start 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Derrick Hostert ended the day with a time of 4:38.63 earning second place. Derrick lead the whole race until the last 200 meters where Jacob Kment of Logan View out kicked Hostert to earn the district championship in the 1600 meter run. Derrick is seated ninth at the state meet and will run the 1600 meter run at 2:00 pm on Saturday.

Other point scorers for the team were: Angel Rodriguez, fifth in the pole vault with a height of 12 feet and sixth in the 300 intermediate hurdles with 43.5. Daniel Waterman placed fifth in the 3200 meter run with 10:45.5. Cody Knopp placed fifth in the discus with 134-10. Connor Peterson placed fifth with 11.74 in the 100 meter dash. The 4 x 100 meter relay team placed fifth with 46.05.

This week the O'Neill Eagles will compete at Burke Stadium in the Class B championships. The Eagles will compete in the afternoon session.
