Eagles Go 2-1 Last Week

The O'Neill Eagles played tough ball last week starting off with a 61-52 win over the Guardian Angels on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

The Eagles were well matched and the game was close until the fourth quarter when the Eagles edged ahead.

The Eagles took on Boone Central next and lost 55-69.

“We started off the game exactly how we needed to, taking a two point lead after the first quarter.  The second quarter on the other hand was our downfall as Boone capitalized on 14 turnovers and put us in a 13 point hole that we couldn’t dig out of. “The one positive to take from a game like this is that we never quit and played well enough in three of the four quarters to win the game. Now we just have to put it all together,” said Coach Kallhoff.

Leading the Eagles were: Charley Burtwistle with 16 points; Jackson Latzel 13 points and  eight rebounds; Brock Schueth eight points, five rebounds and six assists; Nate Gotschall seven points; Dylan Belik six points and Tyson Hostert five points and five rebounds.

On Saturday O’Neill beat the Elgin team 71-22.

“This was a good game for us to get some confidence back. We shot as well tonight as we have all year finishing 64% as a team from the field. 

“I was also pleased with our defensive intensity which I thought we lacked the night before. Now we need to carry this over and win some of the tight games we find ourselves in,” said Coach Kallhoff.

Leading the Eagles were: Brock Schueth with 16 points, three steals and three assists; Charley Burtwistle 16 points, three steals and three assists; Nate Gotschall 11 points, four rebounds, five steals and three assists; Tyson Hostert 10 points and four rebounds; Jackson Latzel 10 points; Jonathan Hunt, Riley Wakefield, Jake Young and Walker Liewer all with two points each.
