Eagles Roll Over Wayne 25-6

Last Friday night the O'Neill Eagles won their second straight game over the Wayne Blue Devils 25-6.

"I was proud of our guys' overall effort last Friday, they answered when needed. Defensively we held them to six points with a 'bending but not breaking' approach. Wayne tested our secondary and their QB was very good at moving the pocket all over the field. They passed for good yardage on us but we stiffened up and kept them out of the end zone when we needed stops. Defense will continue to win us games and we will continue to work on certain areas of concern.

"Offensively we did some things better than we did week one, but we are no where close to where we want to be. We need to continue to finish blocks, play the game faster, and be sharper mentally.  We (as a team) had 12 penalties throughout the game which kept the drive alive (for them) or stalled out a drive (for us).  All of the things that need to be worked on are in our control and we will use the next eight days to prepare and improve on our deficiencies," said Coach Eichelberger.

The Eagles had 40 carries for 261 yards. Leading the Eagles offensively rushing was Tate Laursen with 19 carries for 117 yards and one touchdown on the first kick return. Michael Hedlund had 14 carries for 109 yards and two touchdowns and David Fox had three carries for 20 yards. Tad Fry had two receptions for 14 yards and one touchdown.

Derek Hostert led the Eagle defense with 12 tackles, followed by Charley Burtwistle and Robert Nordby with 10 tackles a piece.

The Eagles are off for this week because of their early game in week zero.
