Eagles Run At Sky View Lake

O'Neill Harrier Taya Dickau placed 5th overall in the Norfolk Catholic Invitational.

Last week the O'Neill Eagles competed at the Norfolk Catholic Invitational. The invitational consisted of 19 schools. Three hundred ninety-seven athletes competed on Friday.

First race of the day the high school girls competed against 10 full teams. The Lady Eagles placed 4th overall. Leading the Eagles again was Sophomore Taya Dickau placing 5th and senior Ashley Dickau 10th. Eagle runners Mollie Corkle placed 25th, Hailey Romesser 47th, Lauryn Dusatko 60th, and Bethnay Owens 66th. 

“The girls team improved this week. I was happy with this week's effort. The girls' team is going in the right direction,” said Coach Hilker.

The high school boys' varsity team placed seventh out of 13 complete teams. Leading the way again was freshman Max Berg. Max medaled with 11th place finish, with a personal best of 18:24. Varsity members placing were Trevor Alder 28th, Elijah Kopecky 33rd, Brandon Romero 47th, and Tomas Arciniego 51st. 

In the boys' junior varsity division, the O'Neill Eagles placed 2nd. The team placed 2nd overall. Three medaled in the race. Brayden Romesser was 4th, Gus Laible 7th, Brock Latzel 10th. Eagles Xzavier Parks 21st, Logan Bradshaw 26th, Ethan Sukup 39th, Ashten Burival 30th, Gavin Kruse 36th, Josue Jimenez 40th, Kaleb Asche 41st, Tucker Cook 48th and Luke Wilson 49th. 

“The team as a whole is making big strides, O'Neill has 10 athletes under 21:30 minutes, four athletes under 20 minutes, and one athlete almost under 18 minutes. If we keep improving every week we will be in a good place at the end of the season,” commented Hilker. 

In the junior high, the Junior Eagles had two top four finishers: Kiarra Kennedy 3rd and Alonso Hernandez was 4th. 

The girls team placed 8th overall with Kiarra leading the way. Rest of the team placed as followed: Emma French 36th, Taylee Wade 46th, Emma Bowder 55th, Saige Havranek 60th, Jailynn Romesser 61st, Juianna Sunum 63rd, McKenna Sickels 72nd, Isabelle Krause 78th, and Hannah Zak 80th. 

The junior high boys' team placed 3rd overall. Alonso placed 4th. The rest of the team was Angel Sanchez 13th, Evan Cole 23rd, Jordan Perez 26th, Tyson Becker 31st, Barrett Troester 33rd, Alex Otte 64th, Dane Asche 76th, and Alex Nelson 89th. 

Next week the O'Neill Eagles host their own invitational. Fifteen schools will be competing in at the meet. The invitational will start at 3:30 at the O'Neill Country Club.
