Lady Eagles Finish Third At Creighton Invitational

The O'Neill Girls Track Team competed at the Creighton Invitational on Tuesday, April 24. The Lady Eagles finished in third scoring 79.5 points behind Hartington Cedar Catholic and the eventual champions, Laurel-Concord/Coleridge.

The highlight of the meet was Bobbi Walters clearing 11 feet in the pole vault to break her own school record of 10-10 to tie the Northeast Nebraska all-time record. The other Lady Eagle vaulters also fared well as Katie Stepp and Rachel Price also recorded personal best marks. Katie finished in second place with a 9 foot vault and Rachel Price cleared 7'6" for her personal best.

Brandi Walters continued her great season winning the 100 high hurdles and the 100 meter dash. Brandi recorded her best time of the season in prelims running 15.9. She ran 16.3 in the finals to win the gold. Brandi also ran her best time of the year in the 300 low hurdles of 49.3 to finish in second place. Junior Alex Hedlund placed second in the 100 hurdles with a 16.8 clocking, but also ran well in prelims tying her personal best time of 16.2. Alex also finished in fourth place in the 300 hurdles running 50.1.

The Lady Eagle throwers placed in many events also. Kelsey Appleby threw the discus 97 feet to finish in third with her younger sister, Lindsey, throwing 95'10" to finish in fourth. Junior Allison Depko threw the shot put 32'6" to finish in fourth place.

Junior Tasha Lechtenberg finished in fifth place in the 3200 run with a 12:16.30 time.

Freshman Katrina Spangler also scored points for the Lady Eagles with a sixth place finish in the 400 meter dash running 68.6.

The 4 x 100 meter relay team consisting of Desi Pinkerman, Katrina Spangler, Rachel Price and Bobbi Walters sprinted to a sixth place finish. The 4 x 400 relay team of Catrina Spangler, Bobbie Walters, Alex Hedlund and Brandi Walters finished in fourth place.

"Congratulations to Bobbi Walters on her accomplishments this year. She has been a sold performer for her entire career at O'Neill High School and she has earned any recognition she gets. I was very proud of our girls efforts the past couple of meets as we continue to battle the weather. We keep getting better and hope to peak in the next few weeks." said Coach Peterson.
