Dennis was born on Feb. 20, 1947 in Plainview, son of William and Lucille.

He was raised in Dorsey, Niobrara, Verdigre and Emmet, where he completed the eighth grade.

Dennis began working in the hay fields and also began learning how to drive truck soon after leaving school.

On April 16, 1969 he was united in marriage to Karen Wescott. They resided in Inman, before moving to South Dakota where Dennis began his 40+ year truck driving career and had his own trucking company, Alder Trucking while being leased onto MTC.

In the early 80s, he moved his family to Texas, where he pulled flatbed for ATS hauling oil field pipe and lots of other different commodities.

In 87 he moved his family back to Nebraska, settling in O'Neill, and deciding to take a break from trucking to be with his kids. While in O'Neill, Dennis worked for Koplin Farms, doing field work, learning to run irrigation systems and hauling grain.

He moved his family to Ravenna in 1990 where he worked for Lewis Feedlot, doing field work and running the company's pivots during irrigation season, while living in Ravenna.

In the early 2000s after both his kids graduated from high school, he made the decision to go back to driving truck.  He started at NTC in Grand Island, then went back to ATS out of Minnesota, and ended his driving career at Duvall Trucking. He liked pulling flatbed, because he said, "No 2 loads are the same."  Dennis enjoyed driving all over the country, he was able to see 49 of the 50 US states, along with several of the Canadian Provinces. His favorite trip was the one he took to Alaska, and he was able to take his wife Karen.

Dennis loved the outdoors and teaching his love for hunting and fishing to his kids. On the days he wasn't working, Dennis would be on the water fishing for Bass, Walleye, Catfish or Crappie. He enjoyed watching Husker sports, especially football and baseball. He loved western movies and country music. He also loved spending time watching sports and playing catch with his grandson Darik.

Dennis is survived by his two children Darrick (Nicole) Alder of Giltner and Rebecca (Brad) Sybrandts of Grand Island; four grandchildren Darik, Raegyn and Khloe Alder and Karsyn Sybrandts; one sister Sandy (Clark) Gaughenbaugh of O'Neill; two brothers Danny (Connie) Alder of O'Neill and Davy of Norfolk; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
