Lady Cards Win NVC Title

The NVC Conference Tournament was held last week with lots of action cumulating in Friday night's championship match in O'Neill.

On Monday, in the first game, Niobrara/Verdigre downed Lynch in four sets winning 25-17,  25-19,  21-25 and 25-19. Leading the Lynch Eagles was McKenna Rossemier with 24 kills, four solo blocks and two digs.

In the second game held at Ewing, EPPJ faced CWC with CWC winning in four sets 26-24, 25-19, 19-25 and 25-18. Leading CWC were Jordan Wietzki with 16 kills, two ace serves and nine digs; Jamie Laetsch with three kills, nine set assists, two ace serves and seven digs and Kortney Kasselder with 10 kills, one solo block, one ace serve and 12 digs. In the third game held at Ewing, Ewing faced off against Niobrara Verdigre with Ewing winning in three 25-7, 25-19 and 25-11. Leading the Tigers were Riley Funk with 16 kills, three solo blocks, five ace serves and 10 digs; Laura Hynes with 18 set assists, four ace serves and three digs; Tori Thramer with nine  kills, one solo block and four digs; Lydia Fry with three kills, one ace serve and three digs and Katie Koenig with five kills,  three solo blocks, one ace serve and nine digs.

On  Monday on the other side of the NVC Tourney West Boyd defeated Santee in three 25-10, 25-6 and 25-6. West Boyd then faced St. Mary's and lost in three to the Cards 25-10, 25-14 and 25-11.

At the Stuart site Clearwater/Orchard  knocked off North Central to play Stuart. In that match Stuart came out on top winning in three 25-22, 25-17 and 25-23.

Tuesday, Oct. 23 the final four teams met in West Boyd to see who would go on to the championship. In the first game Ewing took on CWC and in four sets came out on top winning 16-24, 26-24, 25-20, 24-26 and 15-10 to advance to the finals. In the second game St. Mary's took on Stuart winning that one in three 25-18, 25-23 and 25-18 to advance to the finals.

In the runner up match of the NVC Tournament on Friday, CWC faced Stuart winning in four sets 21-25, 25-14, 25-20 and 25-8.

The final match on Friday evening put St. Mary's against Ewing with an exciting match played on both sides of the court.  The Cardinals won in four sets 25-12, 25-22, 16-25 and 28-26.
