Cards End Season With 42-22 Loss To Loomis

DEFENSE -  Tom Chvala and Ryan Podany take down a Loomis player in last weeks second round playoff game held in O'Neill.

The St. Mary's Cards have finished another year on the football field. The Cards fell to the Loomis Wolves 42-22 last Wednesday in O'Neill.

The Cards knew they were in for a fight when Kalen Anderson of Loomis took the kick off in for a 73-yard touch down to put the Cards down 6-0 with only seconds off the clock.

Loomis scored twice more in the first quarter once on a three yard run into the end zone and then Anderson again ran 39 yards into the end zone to put the wolves up 20-0. The Cards did score in the first quarter when Tait Sibbel threw to Ryan Podany for a 14- yard touchdown and Sibbel hit Ty Eiler for the two point conversion.

The Cards woke up in the second period keeping the Loomis offense from the end zone but the defense got a safety on the Cards to put them up 22-8 at the half.

Both sides battled in the third with neither team gaining points. However in the fourth quarter Loomis racked up 20 more points on the rushing game. The Cards tried to keep pace when the Cards drove down field and Sibbel got in on a 1 yard play and Ty Eiler scored the final points of the year on a 70-yard kick off return.

Leading rushers were Kalen Anderson of Loomis with 249 yards and Tait Sibbel with 59 yards. Top receivers were Matt Huston of Loomis with four catches for 92 yards and Ty Eiler with three catches for 41 yards. Ty Eiler lead the Cardinal defense with 12 tackles.

This was the third year that Loomis ended the Cardinals season and they advance in the playoffs with a 8-2 record and the Cardinals finish their impressive season with a 9-1 record.
