The St. Mary's Cardinals hosted the Niobrara/Verdigre Cougars last Friday and dominated by a score of 62-14.

The Cards came out of the gate hot, when Ben Barlow took the kick off for a 73 yard touchdown, and with  Gage Hedstrom hitting Eli Banks for the two point conversion the Cards were on their way in taking a massive 22 point lead over the Cougars in the first quarter. 

Hedstrom hit Carson Dannenbring for a 56 yard touchdown and then ran in a 53 yard touchdown  before the Cougars put up their first points of the game from a 72 a yard kick off return by Arlan Lammers for the Cougars.

The third quarter brought back the energy of the first, with the Cardinals jumping up 20  on a pass from Hedstrom to Dannenbring for a 34 yard touchdown and then Hedstrom hit Logan Brabec on an eight yard touchdown and Drake Berg got the final score of the third on a two yard touchdown. 

Brabec had a 31 yard touchdown in the fourth with Hedstrom hitting Berg for the conversion. The Cougars put in the bench to finish the game and scored once more on a seven yard touchdown by Kash Nielsen.

The Cardinals ran 58 plays with nine first downs and had seven penalties for 50 yards. The Cougars ran 45 plays for six first downs and had 10 penalties for 68 yards.

Hedstrom had 13 carries for 84 yards and one touchdown; Berg seven carries for 28 yards and one touchdown; James Eby four carries for 0 yards; Ben Barlow three carries for -1 yards; Banks two carries for one yard; and Brabec one carry for 31 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively,  Hedstrom had the most tackles with 10; Dannenbring and Banks eight tackles; Dalton Hurley seven;  Berg six tackles; Ben Barlow, Brabec and Sam Barlow four each; Matthew Koehlmoos two tackles; and Eby, Ben Pongratz, Brayden Krugman, Carter Cole and Jack Gydesen all one tackle. The Cards had fifty-eight tackles in total.
