St. Mary's Cardinals Advance To State Tourney

The St. Mary's boys varsity won the D1-3 district championship Tuesday evening with a 63-46 victory over the Randolph Cardinals. The Cardinals will be making their second consecutive trip to Lincoln and their fourth trip in the last five years. The Cardinals will take on West Point Guardian Angel Central Catholic on Thursday morning at Lincoln East. Tip-off is slated for 9:00 a.m.

The game was a hard fought contest as the lead changed hands early before the Cards took a 29-24 halftime lead. Randolph came out in the third period to regain a one point lead before the Cardinals kicked it into gear to take a 45-36 lead after the third quarter and never looked back. Sophomore Adam Moon led the St. Mary's offense with 21, 9-10 at the line, while seniors Tait Sibbel and Tyler Timmerman added 19 and 12 points respectively. Moon and Tom Chvala led the rebounding points for St. Mary's while junior point guard Ty Eiler led in the assist column. Sibbel was the defensive leader for the Cards which included several key steals in the contest.
