Betty Wolfe

A Funeral Mass for Betty Wolfe, age 98 of O'Neill, Nebraska, will be 10:30 am Saturday, February 10, 2024 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill.  Burial will follow at the O'Neill Cemetery.  Rev. Bernard Starman will officiate.  Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 pm at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill with a Parish Rosary at 7:00 pm. Betty passed away on Wednesday February 7, 2024.  Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Catholic Schools.  Arrangements are under the direction of Biglin's Mortuary.

Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Wolfe was born November 5, 1925 in rural Holt County to Edward and Genevieve (Gaffney) Flood.  She grew up in O'Neill and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1943. 

After high school she received a music scholarship but due to her father's failing health, she decided to stay home and work for NPPD in Valentine, NE.  Two years later, she married the love of her life Gene Wolfe on November 15, 1945 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill, NE and to this union seven children were born. 

Betty worked as a bookkeeper for O'Neill Auto Supply, NPPD, and worked as a city clerk for O'Neill after all of her children were in school.  Betty often played the organ and piano for Mass on Sunday's and for many church events.  She also enjoyed golfing, bowling, crocheting, watching Husker football and volleyball, and being around family and friends.  Betty enjoyed spending time with her family and enjoying traditional family meals especially around the holidays.

Betty is survived by her children, Ann Mckay of St. Paul, NE, Mary (George) Wetzler of Hayesville, KS, Jed (Lea Frechette) Wolfe of Walling, TN, Tom (Pat) Wolfe of Norfolk, NE, Trisha (Tim) French of Omaha, NE, and Tim (Jackie) Wolfe of Winside, NE; 16 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by her husband; Gene Wolfe; parents, Edward and Genevieve Flood; son, Dan Wolfe; brothers, John and Fritz Flood; sister, Kathleen Hansen, and two infant sons.
