2013 NVC Underway This Week

The 2013 NVC  Tourney is underway this week with the championship teams to be crowned on Saturday at West Holt. Games have been played this past week at St. Mary's and Clearwater.

In the first round girls' action at St. Mary's EPPJ defeated Santee 68-15 on Saturday. Leading EPPJ was Stephanie Bode with 24 points and  Chelsi Mescher with 17 points. Leading the Santee team was Hazel Hallum with six points.

In the second first round game at St. Mary's, Niobrara-Verdigre edged out  North Central 34-33. Leading the Niobrara-Verdigre squad was Jade Salmen with 13 points. Leading the North Central team was Sadie Stec with 14 points. 

In the first round boys' games at St. Mary's the Boyd County team downed Santee 78-46. Leading the Boyd County team was Eric Lechtenberg and Trevor Krugman with 11 points each, Drew Stahlecker with nine and Dexter Black with eight points. Leading the Santee team was Nick White with eight, Weylyn Washington, Rodney Bickerstaff, Jr. and Matt Henry all with seven.

In Monday's action St. Marys squeaked by EPPJ in overtime winning 58-55. Leading the Cardinals were Adam Moon with 37 points, 13 rebounds and one steal, Connor Connot with seven points and 15 rebounds and Ty Eiler with six points and seven steals. Leading the EPPJ team was Ross Schindler with 20 points and four steals, Nick Heithoff with 11 points and six rebounds and Trent Hoefer with nine points and seven rebounds. 

In the second game on Monday evening the 11-7 Ewing Tigers downed North Central 59-47 to advance to the semifinals on Thursday. Leading the Tigers were Jake Walton with 15 points and three steals, Blake Cunningham with 15 points and six rebounds and Robert Nordby with 11 points and eight rebounds. Leading North Central was Carter Camp with 20 points and Tyler Knox with 16 points.

“I was really proud of our team and their effort in the game. We got off to a great start with a 14-0 start to the game and went 17-17 at the FT line in the second half and 23-26 for the game. We had great focus and discipline on defense and offensively executed at crucial points of the game.  We had good balance in scoring and look forward to the remainder of the NVC Tournament.” said Coach Appleby.
