Wayne Knapp

Wayne Knapp, age 80, of Neligh, passed away Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at the Alpine Village Nursing Home in Verdigre.

Visitation was held on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, from 12:30-2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Neligh.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Neligh with Pastor Carrol Plisek officiating. Music was provided by Carol Thiele, pianist and Bob Kester, soloist.

Pallbearers were Joel Knapp, Alan Knapp, David Knapp and Kevin Elsberry.

Honorary pallbearers were Craig Sanne, Zach Knapp, Christopher Knapp, Adam Tunink, Travis Tunink, Andrew Knapp, Josh Schmit, Noah Schmit and John Damme.

Burial was in the Clearwater Cemetery in Clearwater.

Snider Memorial Funeral Home of Neligh was in charge of arrangements.

Wayne Gaylin Knapp was born on March 5, 1932, to Robert and Nolma (Dohse) Knapp on a farm in rural Neligh. He was baptized in the Methodist Church.

He graduated with the Class of 1951 from Neligh High School. On March 11, 1952, he entered the United States Air Force in Omaha. He was discharged on Dec. 21, 1955, from Parks AFB, CA.

On Oct. 25, 1953, he married Nellie Otte in Neligh. They were married for 25 years.

Wayne was a farmer all his life. He farmed east of Neligh and west of Clearwater. He liked dancing and playing cards.

Wayne is survived by his children: Pam Knapp of O'Neill, Dan and wife, Carrie Knapp of Paxton, Deb and husband, Doug Sanne of Elgin and Michael and wife, Patti Knapp of Thurston, CO; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Keith and wife, Sue Knapp of Crossville, TN, Terry and wife, Nancy Knapp of Lincoln and Bob and wife, Betty Knapp of Omaha; and one sister, Cindy and husband, Dean McGee of College Station, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nolma Knapp, brother, James Knapp and sister, Eloise and husband, Arlo Elsberry.
