Lorris 'Larry' C. Rice

Ainsworth — Lorris "Larry" Clark Rice, 86, of Ainsworth, d...

Ross L. Fink

Ross Lloyd Fink, age 79, of Broomfield CO, passed away Monday, July 23, 2012.

He will be laid to rest with his beloved wife back in his home town of Page, where it all began.

Rundus Funeral Home in Broomfield, CO, was in charge of arrangements.

Ross was born March 18, 1933, in Page, to George and Zola Fink. With the passing of his mother, at the age of 13, he spent most of his time with his grandparents, Frank and Nova Snyder. As a very young boy he loved riding his horse Beauty bareback around the country side picking apples for the farm hands and racing her through the fields. His teenage years were spent helping his grandparents farm their land.

After graduating from Page High School in 1952, Ross enlisted in the Air Force where he was trained to be a jet mechanic. He was stationed briefly at Lockland and Amarillo, Texas Air Force bases, then finally in Wichita, KS.

He married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Ann Heiss, on Jan.10, 1953, in Grand Island. They lived in Kansas until Ross left the service and joined the Mountain Bell Telephone Company in January 1957.  His job as a lineman took them to Boulder and ultimately to Broomfield.

Ross and Nancy had three children and 43 wonderful years together.  He enjoyed living near the mountains fishing (but not fish), family camping trips with friends, woodworking and tennis.

He was a member of Broomfield United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Early on, he taught high school Sunday school and was the head usher for several of his later years.

He retired in 1990 after 38 years with the telephone company. He and Nancy hit the road in their motor home, visiting the majority of the United States over several years.  Their grandchildren’s best memories are camping trips in the RV with Papa and Grandma. Nancy passed suddenly in January 1996 and Ross remained a widower for 16 1/2 years always claiming, “he could never love another as much as he loved Nancy.”

To fill his days he and his good friend, Mary Johns, began woodworking. Together they built mirrors, jewelry boxes, barns and doll houses for their grandchildren and eventually crosses.  A “Ross” cross was given, never sold, to anyone and everyone who wanted them, even complete strangers walking by his open garage one day while he was working.

After a five year hard fought battle with cancer, Ross passed away at his son and daughter-in-law’s home in Brighton, CO, surrounded by his entire family.  He was a loving father to daughters, Loretta White (Bruce) and Denise Wanzeck (Jim) and son Roger (Shereen).  He was a beloved Papa to seven grandchildren: Erin White Webster (Ryan), Aubrey White Nelsen (Matt), Travis Wanzeck, Tyler Wanzeck, Tara Wanzeck, Anthony Fink (Laura), Kristin Fink and great-grandson, Kellen Webster. He also leaves to mourn his sister, Lois Sinnard of Columbus, GA.
