Restrictions Remain In Place For Cancer Patients

May 11, 2022 (0)

Visitors who hope to spend time with patients receiving chemotherapy treatment at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital are reminded that they cannot do so. Restrictions to avoid possible infection are still in place for these sensitive patients, and they include no visitors during their time in the chemotherapy department. “While we've lifted many COVID-19 restrictions, we must keep some in place for our cancer patients,” said Darcey Shabram, RN, manager of Avera St. Anthony's Hospital Outpatient Oncology Infusion Center. “We understand family and friends want to accompany patients during infusions, but we cannot do so.” Shabram said patient volumes are high, and that many patients receiving care in her department may have immune system issues that make them more at risk. “COVID-19 is still a serious disease, especially for certain populations, including cancer patients,” she said. “We hope those friends, loved ones and others who are supporting patients will help us keep them safe.”
