Ralph K. Seger

Ralph K. Seger, age 87, of O'Neill, passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at  Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill.

Visitation was held Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, from 3-8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. Masonic  service, and on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Seger Funeral Home in Atkinson. 

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at Seger Funeral Home in Atkinson.

Pallbearers were his grandsons Jason Bolz, Ralph E. Seger, Jr., Thomas Seger, Bob Seger, David Seger, Steve Hall, Darren Summers and Brandon Jackson.

Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren Mike, Kim, Karen  and Kendra Seger, Craig Hall, Keri Torres, William and Sean Schmidt, Dan Summers, Kristy Pacas, Kathy Bach, Stacy Shoemaker, Shawna Maher, Erin Couch, Amy Bolz and Kelly Seger.

Burial was in the O'Neill Cemetery in O'Neill with military rites provided by American Legion Post #93.

Seger Funeral Home in Atkinson was in charge of arrangements.

Ralph was born May 19, 1925, in Atkinson to Frank and Viola (Osborne) Seger. He grew up in the Atkinson area and enlisted in the United States Army in 1943. After basics Ralph was sent to Okinawa. He served his country as a combat infantryman during WWII until his discharge in 1946.

He married Fern Walton on March 27, 1957, at Elk Point, SD. Fern  passed away on August 28, 2006.

  He worked at Dankert's Service for 13 years until he started his own business, Seger Appliance and Refrigeration. He spent many years repairing anything from household appliances to bulk tanks for dairymen and commercial refrigeration. Ralph ran his business until his health would no longer permit him to do so.

Ralph was a musician at heart and loved music. He played the mandolin. You could always stop by in the evening to catch him playing a tune on his mandolin. He never met a stranger and always had time to visit.

He was a member of the Simonson Legion Post #93 and VFW Post #926 in O'Neill for over 40 years. He served as VFW Post commander and District II commander. He was also a member of the Garfield Masonic Lodge #95 in O'Neill.

Ralph is survived by his four sons: Kenneth Seger of Hawaii, and Ralph (Jeanette) Seger, Kevin (Sue) Seger and Randy (Patsy) Jackson, all of O'Neill; two daughters, Sharon (Arnold) Hall of Orchard and Patty (George) Summers of Page; 23 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Mildred (Ervin) Van Buren of Norfolk, Margaret Seger of Yuba City, CA, and Maxine (Ed) Bulau of O'Neill.

He was preceded in death by his wife Fern; his parents; a daughter, Arlene Seger; a grandson, Darrin Seger; and six brothers, Edward, Clifford, Raymond, Orville, Calvin and James.
