Marjorie (Margie) was born in Atkinson on Feb. 4, 1915, and was the last living child of the Oscar and Edna Hendrick's family. Marjorie lived in the O'Neill/Atkinson area most of her life, however, she graduated from high school in McAllen, Texas.

On April 25, 1936, she married Paul Nelson and for forty years lived on the Nelson Ranch, 20 miles northeast of O'Neill. To this union two children were born, Naomi Jean  and Paul Arden.

When her husband Paul passed away in March of 1978, her son and family moved to the ranch. She first moved to Spencer and later to O'Neill where she was involved in many activities in both communities. If there was a need she volunteered to help. She married a longtime friend, William Hubby, in May of 1979. He passed away in 1984.

Then on Dec. 27, 1992, she married Rev. Charley Phipps. Together they pastored and led the O'Neill WesleyanChurch until their retirement in 1997. They then moved to a retirement center near Sedalia, MO, to be near her daughter, Jean and husband, Dr. T.T. Hoyne. Charley passed away in September of 2001. For the past few years she had resided in the Golden Age LivingCenter in Stover, MO.

A talented woman, she was always active in community events and many church activities. Initially she was active and taught Sunday school and Bible school at the Paddock Union Church. She sang at most funerals held at the community church. She was a member of the Spencer Wesleyan Church and taught Sunday school there for many years also. Later in life she was a leader in the O'Neill Wesleyan Church.

As a gifted local artist she was involved in organizing the Ranchland Art Group and served as its president for several years. She painted many pictures of local interests and historical significance. Margie taught art classes for many local youth and adults in the area. She was a lifetime member of the Holt County Historical Society, a charter member of the Holt County Farm Bureau and served in many roles for the organization,  and she was in the Republican women's group.

Marjorie loved to be around others and to lend a helping hand no matter the chore. She befriended everyone she met and had no enemies.
