Marian was born Jan. 17, 1916, to Clyde and Elsie (Spence) Nilson on her grandfather’s farm northeast of Atkinson. She attended a one room rural school and when the family moved to Atkinson she completed high school at Atkinson High. In 1933 she married Fred Roberts who preceded her in death in 1984.

Marian was active in the Atkinson community and the First Presbyterian Church in Atkinson. Fred was a faithful member of the Atkinson Fire Department and Marian helped organize the Firemen’s Wives Auxiliary. She was also a den mother for several years when Fred was the cub master. She also helped when Fred was the scout master. She was active in a 4-H club called The Golden Key. On her 50th birthday she became an assistant mail carrier. She also served as a star route carrier on a route that covered nearly 100 miles on country roads north of Atkinson. She retired from the mail route after serving twenty years and then became more involved in church work.

After Fred died she move to Colorado and lived with her sister Mavis awhile. She then moved back to Atkinson and purchased a house and lived there for 20 years. After her 90th birthday she fell and fractured her leg. Because of complications she moved to Wel Life, an assisted living facility in Kearney, to be near her daughter Pat. After falling again she was unable to get around without help, so she moved to the Mount Carmel Home in 2011.

Marian will be missed by all who knew her because of her pleasant personality, quick wit and kindness to others. Until her eye sight failed, she was an avid reader, an expert in cross-word puzzles and loved to travel. She was also an excellent photographer with her point and shoot camera.
