Lady Cards Dominate First Week

Dec 6, 2023 (0)

ST. MARY'S ALISSA BRABEC (3) appears to climb up a Riverside player for a lay up in Friday night's action at home.

After an absolutely stellar volleyball season, the St. Mary's lady Cardinals have come back full force for basketball. Their first game on Nov. 30 they traveled to Osmond and dominated by a score of 75-31.

Quarter one was a booming start for the Cardinals, pulling ahead 22 and leaving the Hawks to just eight. The second quarter was much of the same-another 14 point gap in the Cards favor.

Quarters three and four did no favors for the Hawks either, giving the Cardinals an easy first win.

Alissa Brabec was the MVP with 20 points, shooting four of 12 three-pointers for 33 points and four of nine two-pointers for 44 percent. Brabec also had four rebounds and three steals; Mya Hedstrom just behind was 18 points, five rebounds and nine steals. Lorissa Reiman 14 points, 10 rebounds and three kills; Gracie Williamson 14 points, four rebounds and five steals; Annabelle Barlow nine points, four rebounds and four steals; Emerson Mlnarik three rebounds and one steal; and Adyson Peterson one rebound and one steal.

The next day the Cardinals invited Riverside to their court and stomped them 69-19.

Quarter one was a statement from the Cardinals, taking an early 24 point advantage to begin the game. Unfortunately for the Chargers, things wouldn't really pick up from there.

The next three quarters the Cards kept up the pressure to wrap up the game and get another solid win to their name.

Hedstrom takes to the top with 20 points, shooting two of five three-pointers for 40 percent and five of 10 two-pointers for 50 percent. Hedstrom also had 10 rebounds and four steals; Brabec 15 points and one rebound; Reiman 10 points, 15 rebounds and six steals; Williamson 10 points, eight rebounds and five steals; Barlow seven points, one rebound and four steals; Lily Bauer four points, three rebounds and one steal; Peterson two points, three rebounds and two steals; and Mlnarik one point and two rebounds.
