Josephine D. Funk

Josephine D. Funk, age 86, of Neligh, passed away on Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at the Golden LivingCenter in Neligh.

Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. wake service on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Ewing.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Ewing with Father James Kramper officiating. Music was provided by Tom Kimes.

Pallbearers were Chuck Sands, Lyle Spangler, Josh Spangler, Travis Dozler, Tanner Dozler and Andrew Ferris

Burial was in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in rural Clearwater.

Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater was in charge of arrangements.

Josephine was born on May 8, 1925, in Ewing, to Frank and Cecelia (Everett) Sands. She grew up in rural Ewing and attended School District 131. After schooling she helped for many years on the family farm, which included, helping taking care of the cattle, milk cows, raise chickens and helped in the hay field. 

Her hobbies include horses, vegetables and flower gardening. She spent many hours preserving and canning for long winter months. She enjoyed baking, also. She enjoyed taking care of her nieces, nephews and neighbors. Josephine married Vic Funk on May 18, 1985. He passed away on April 7, 2008.

She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church for many years. Upon her retirement in 1990, she and her brother Lawrence moved to Ewing and became members of St. Peter's Catholic Church. She will always be remembered for helping others and her love for horses.

Josephine is survived by one sister, Frances Spangler of the Golden LivingCenter in Neligh.

She was preceded in death by her husband,; her parents; two brothers, Frank and Lawrence; and two sisters, Mary Daniels and Anna Wieting.
