Herb Reiser

Herb Reiser, age 82, of Spencer, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill.

Visitation was held from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2011, at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill with a Knight's of Columbus and parish rosary at 8 p.m.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spencer. Burial will be in the Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Butte.

Herb was born November 9, 1928, in rural Butte to Frank and Mary (Dopheide) Reiser. He grew up in that area and attended school at Saints Peter and Paul Parochial School and graduated from the Butte High School. On June 12, 1951, Herb married Mildred Baker in Butte. They made their home there, where they farmed and raised their family. In 1971 they moved to O’Neill where Herb owned and operated Reiser Insurance Agency until his retirement in 2006. Herb was very active in the O’Neill area where he served as Chamber of Commerce President for 2 years. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed a good round of golf.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in O’Neill, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spencer, the Knights of Columbus Council #701, the O’Neill Lions Club, the National Farmers Organization and R-Calf USA.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred of Spencer; 4 sons, Steve and Margaret Reiser of O’Neill, Leonard and Tracy Reiser of Butte, Martin and Cindy Reiser of Spencer, Gene and Lisa Reiser of Sioux City, Iowa; three daughters, Karen and Frank Abart of Bellingham, WA, JoAnn and Gary McClanahan of Atkinson and Sandy Reiser of Denver, CO; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Joe Reiser of Denison, Iowa, Ronald and Alice Reiser of Denison, Iowa, Matt and Dorothy Reiser of Omaha, Frank and Diana Reiser of Kansas City, KS and Charles and Betty Reiser of Elkhorn; and one sister, Sylvia Blum of O’Neill.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents; twin sons, Peter and Paul; two brothers, Vincent and Father Phil; one sister, Della; one grandson, James; one granddaughter, Emily; and a great-granddaughter, Tessa Stron
