Garry Lockmon

Stuart — Garry Lockmon, 85, of Stuart, died on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024 in Kearney.

Visitation was held Monday, Feb. 5, 2024 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stuart.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 5, 2024 at the church in Stuart. Fr. Ross Burkhalter officiated.

Burial was in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Stuart.

Memorials may be made to the Stuart Knights of Columbus in Garry's name.

Seger Funeral Home in Atkinson was in charge of the arrangements.

Garry was born to Dwaine and Hazel (Mlinar) Lockmon on May 12, 1938 on the farm west of Stuart. He was called to the Lord on Feb. 1, 2024 at the age of 85.  

Garry graduated from Stuart High School. He rented the farm west of Stuart where he raised hogs and milked cows. 

On April 12, 1958 he married Janice Schmaderer. They worked together running the farm and Lockmon Farm Supply. He also sold dairy equipment while helping his dad with the hog business.  

With his dad's retirement he took over the order buying business of hogs and later draft and quarter horses. Garry traveled Nebraska and the surrounding states plus Canada buying and delivering hogs and horses and making many friends along the way.

Garry was an active member of the Knights of Columbus obtaining the 4th degree and holding state and local offices. He belonged to several community organizations to better the town of Stuart. He enjoyed working with the youth helping start the Stuart High School Rodeo, was a Boy Scout Leader and supported the softball program.  

Garry loved to hunt and fish. He loved telling stories of his elk hunt in Colorado and fishing the Missouri River. Most of all he loved fishing on his farm pond with friends and working in his shop. He spent many hours following his grandchildren's activities. 

Garry is survived by his wife Janice of Stuart; daughter Kathie (Leonard) Ramm and family Melissa (Aaron) Hansen, Tyler (Rachel) Ramm, Keith (Katie) Ramm, Greg Ramm and Emily (Caleb) Peters; son Bob (Sonya) Lockmon and family Jenny (Preston) Meineke, Lisa (Josh) Sluka, Kady Lockmon (fiancé Dylan Knoll), Kelcie (Chad) Kohle, Jake (Josie) Paxton, Kassidy (John) Wilson and Jordan (Ben) Borer; eight great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; in-laws Sharon Lockmon, Don Schmaderer, Marilyn and Jerry Wallinger, Kathy Schmaderer, Mel and Linda Schmaderer and Arlene and Paul Schwaderer; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dwaine and Hazel Lockmon, in-laws Joe and Helen Schmaderer, brother Glenn Lockmon, brother-in-law Jim Schmaderer and sister-in-law Sally Schmaderer.
