Edward C. Brandt



Edward Carl Brandt, age 67, of Atkinson, passed away Monday, June 25, 2012, at the West Holt Memorial Hospital in Atkinson.

Visitation was held on Thursday, June 28, 2012, from 4-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Seger Funeral Home in Atkinson.

Memorial services were held at 12 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2012, at the Seger Funeral Home in Atkinson. Pastor Wayne Owens officiated.

Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Atkinson, with military graveside rites conducted by Atkinson American Legion Post #86. 

Pallbearers were Rod Schmuecker, Bruce Engler, Chris Engler, Justin Brandt, Jerry Leiding and Vernon Brandt Jr.

Seger Funeral Home in Atkinson was in charge of arrangements.

Edward Carl Brandt was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on Feb. 10, 1945, to Vernal and Iona (Anderson) Brandt.  He grew up in Waterloo and later the family moved to the Neligh area.  He graduated from high school where he met Janice Good, the mother of his three boys.

Ed loved to hunt and fish, each year he hosted a fish fry for his friends and neighbors at his home. He loved fixing and restoring the old fishing rods he “picked up” at area auctions. He also loved woodworking and made such items as wooden tackle boxes and camping cabinets. If he could find a picture or plans he could build it.

Ed is survived by his sons, Edward P. Brandt of Norfolk and Jason Brandt and his wife, Shelly of Kearney; sister, Udonna Schmit and her husband, George of Atkinson; brothers, Vernon Brandt of Phillips and Donald Brandt; three grandchildren and a close personal friend Twila Engler of Atkinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Timothy Brandt; two brothers and two sisters.
