Charlotte J. Baker Charlotte J. Baker, age 99, of St. Paul, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2011, at the Golden LivingCenter in O'Neill. Visitation was held on Monday, May 23, 2011, from 5'7 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St.Paul. Rev. Joseph Javorsky officiated. Interment was held at 1:30 p.m. in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer. Charlotte was born at West Point on Nov. 8, 1911. She was the second daughter of seven children born to Edward and Caroline Webb. The Webb family lived at West Point where Charlotte was baptized at St.Paul's Lutheran Church and attended school through the fourth grade. In 1922 the family moved to rural Wolbach. Charlotte attended Happy Hollow School District # 64 and Cottonwood School where she graduated from the eighth grade in 1925. She attended Palmer High School and later worked for area farm families. On Aug. 4, 1933, Charlotte married Harold Baker at Neligh. Thecouple lived at Central City, Blair, Kennard, Stanton, Meadow Grove and Mead. In 1952 they moved to Grand Island and lived there until 1968 when they retired to an acreage south of St. Paul. After Harold's death in 1986, Charlotte moved in to St. Paul where she was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Charlotte volunteered for the hospital auxiliary and the Heritage Living Center. She also worked with the ladies from St. Mark's to make quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Charlotte enjoyed the activities and meals at the St. Paul Community Senior Center for a number of years.In 2006 Charlotte moved to Matelyn Retirement Community where she participated in exercise class, all the activities and could be seen walking morning, noon, and night. Charlotte was a wonderful cook and baker, an excellent seamstress and an avid fan of word puzzles. Survivors include her children, Kevin Baker and his wife Mary of Portland, OR, Rebecca Slater of Polson, MT and Karen Scott and her husband Raymond of O'Neill; one sister, Ethel Larson of Stromsburg; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband; infant daughter, Barbara; son-in-law Robert Slater; brothers Arthur, Alva, Edward, and Elwood Webb and a sister Thelma Fox.
