The Eagles leveled up last Monday when they played their first Sub-District match against Madison at Battle Creek High School. The girls have had trouble finding their footing for some time, with each new victory being answered with another loss.

In their first match-up, the Eagles faced Madison, who have also been on a bit of a downward spiral. Both teams showed determination in the opening, but the Dragons fell to the wayside. Seeing an opportunity, the Eagles locked in and soared above their opponent 25-7 in the second. With the game all but won, the Eagles just had to keep pace, and they did just that. With the victory, the Eagles moved on while Madison's play came to an abrupt end.

Mariah Kallhoff topped the charts with eight kills, four ace serves and 11 digs; Autumn Jackson had eight kills, one ace serve and two digs; Blakely Sudbeck had eight kills, three blocks and 10 digs; Bergyn Classen had eight kills, one block and two digs; Taylor Young had five kills and one dig; Hannah Hilker had four kills, two ace serves, one block, nine digs and 35 set assists; Mia Lindsay had one kill and five blocks; Serena Chavez had one ace serve, 11 digs and one set assist; Madalynn Kellum had one ace serve; Hailey Fick had seven digs; and Reagan Kaufman had two digs.

The next day the girls faced off against Wayne, who was considerably stronger than the last competitor. Just a little over one month ago, the Blue Devils downed the Eagles 2-1.

Both teams came out the gate with a fire, but the Blue Devils burned brighter. The Eagles got left behind 25-18. Bent on keeping their season alive, the Eagles upped their game, but the Blue Devils were ready for anything. The girls again fell just short, 25-23. With their entire season riding on the outcome of this final set, the Eagles gave it their all. But Wayne had more than the Eagles' all, and put them down for the final time. It was a long-fought battle, with some close calls, but Wayne refused to back down.

Sudbeck owned the night with 12 kills and five digs; Kallhoff had 10 kills, one ace serve, two blocks and seven digs; Classen had 10 kills, one block and two digs; Jackson had six kills, one block and four digs; Hilker had two kills, one block, 20 digs and 36 set assists; Young had two kills and one block; Lindsay had one kill and two blocks; Kellum had two ace serves and five digs; Fick had 15 digs; Chavez had 13 digs and two set assists; and Kaufman had four digs and one set assist.

With the sudden loss at Sub-Districts, the girls' season comes to an end. They end with a 14-18 record, about a 44 percent win-rate.

Congratulations to everyone on the team for making it to this point. Also a big congrats and farewell to Seniors Bergyn Classen, Serena  Chavez and Madalynn Kellum for a great season!
