The St. Mary's Cardinals traveled to Basset on Friday, Oct. 10, to take on the North Central Team. The 0-7 Knights, who are on a slump, provided little challenge for the Cards. The Cards move on to their last regular season game this week against Neligh-Oakdale, who is sitting on a 6-1 record. Neligh-Oakdale fell to EPPJ, whom the Cards beat two weeks ago, 63-6. The Cards came out of the gate with Gage Hedstrom leading the Cards' offense. The first three scores were Hedstrom hitting Ben Barlow on a six-yard, 17-yard, and a 19-yard touchdown. The following scores were all Hedstrom as he ran in a 76-yard and a 17-yard touchdown. Hedstrom ran in one two-point conversion, Barlow ran in one conversion, and Hedstrom hit Lane Bybee for the final score of the quarter. The second quarter saw Hedstrom hit Barlow on a 62-yard touchdown, followed by a nine-yard touchdown pass to Logan Brabec, and then Hedstrom hit Keigan Couch on a 30-yard touchdown, with Couch running in the last score before the half on a four-yard touchdown run. Bybee caught two two-point conversions, and Couch ran in the conversion after his touchdown. The half ended with the Cards on top 68-0. The Cards used the bench in the second half with Myles Hamilton taking in a five-yard touchdown run, and North Central scored in the fourth when Kein Fischer hit Brandt LeZotte on a 59-yard touchdown. The Cards ran 44 plays for 19 first downs and had six penalties for 50 yards. The Cards had 201 yards rushing and 238 passing on the day with Hedstrom carrying the ball eight times for 112 yards and two touchdowns; Keigan Couch had eight carries for 57 yards and one touchdown; Drake Berg had two carries for 12 yards; Barlow had two carries for seven yards; Connor Banks two carries for six yards; Hamilton one carry for five yards and one touchdown; and James Eby one carry for two yards. Barlow had a good day with six catches for 164 yards and four touchdowns; Couch had two catches for 33 yards and one touchdown; Bybee had two catches for 21 yards; Berg had one catch for 11 yards; and Logan Brabec had one catch for nine yards and one touchdown. Leading the Cardinal defense was Dalton Herley with eight tackles; Couch and Berg each had seven tackles; Ben Pongratz five tackles; Bybee had four tackles; Hedstrom, Barlow and Eby each had three tackles each; Connor Banks, Hamilton, Memphis Brabec, Ruger Kraft, Kolton Lavicky and John Mlnarik each had two tackles; and Zane Cole, Cooper Cole, Eli Banks and Carter Cole each had one tackle on the night.
