Lady Cards Win Class D State Track Title

The St. Mary's girls track team took top honors at Burke Stadium this past Saturday in Omaha. The girls scored 56 points in the meet beating Arapahoe by six points.

The girls sent 12 athletes down competing in 15 events and placing in twelve.

The SMH girls 4x800 relay team comprised of Riley Sibbel, Jessi Simons, Kaylee Krotter and Alejandra Vergara-Kersenbrock took second on Friday.  Also placing on the Friday was Emily Everitt who placed second in the long jump with a jump of 16' 17 3/4".  Alejandra Vergara-Kersenbrock and Paula Zakrzewski placed third and fifth respectively in the 3200 meter run and Jessi Pongratz placed fourth in the discus to wrap up Friday.

On Saturday the Cards kept on racking up points. Alejandra Vegara-Kersenbrock finished sixth place in the 800 with a time of 2:27.26. Mackenzie Wecker placed sixth in the 100 meter high hurdles with a time of 16:31 and seventh in the 300 meter low hurdles with a time of 50.73.

The Cardinal 4x100 relay took sixth with a time of 51.83 and the 4x400 took eighth with a time of 4:21.44.

Emily Everitt again finished well placing fourth in the Class D high jump with a jump of 5'2". Jessi Pongratz took seventh in the shot put at 37'6.5". and Mackenzie Wecker took third in the pole vault with a vault of 10'.
