Cards Get Past Palmer To Second Round Of Playoffs

The St. Mary's Football Team advanced to the second round of playoffs with a 24-22 win over Palmer last Thursday evening.

Defense was tough on both sides of the ball as scoring was a premium in the game. Jared Tomjack put the Cards on the board first on a 32 yard touchdown run and ran in the two point conversion to put eight on the tally. Palmer drove the ball down into Cardinal territory and scored eight to even it up on a 10 yard pass play from Kordell Glause to Heath McClellan.

Things looked up for the Cards in the second quarter as they held Palmer at bay from scoring and Tomjack again hit the end zone and with the two point conversion put the Cardinals up 16-8 at the half.

In the third quarter Palmer drove down and when they got into range Glause hit Brett Santin for a 16 yard touchdown but Palmer couldn't get the conversion which would haunt them at the end of the game. Kyle Regan scored in the third quarter on a five yard touchdown run and with Connor Connot's two points the Cardinals were set at 24-14.

Palmer tried to stay in the game and Kordell Glause threw another touchdown pass to  Heath McClellan for six and with the conversion Palmer was trailing by two. Time ran out for Palmer and the lack of conversion in the third quarter cost them a chance at staying in the game.

Leading rushers in the game were Jared Tomjack with 143 yards and Kordell Glause with 66 yards. Kyle Regan threw 9/17 for 93 yards and Kordell Glause was 12/35 for 167 yards. Ty Eiler had three catches for 142 yards, the leading defensive player was Kyle Loecker with 13 assisted and 11 unassisted tackles.
